Heroines came to the rescue of a cause close to their hearts as they took to the streets for Cotswold Care Hospice.

There were cowgirls with their trustry steeds, Ninja Turtles, netball teams and Guides all ready to go that extra mile, or 10.

More than 400 women took part in the Cotswold Midnighr Walk in Cirencester. Together we hope to have raised £40,000 for the Cotswold Care Hospice.

Chrissie Howes walked with her two friends - Joan Fynes and Rachael Carter:

" I had cancer some time ago and I wanted to give something back. Cotswold Care is such a worthwhile cause", said Chrissie.

Emily Birrane and her team dressed as cowgirls, complete with inflatable horses, took part to ensure that others get the same help she did by the Cotswold Hospice when she was battling with cervical cancer.

Emily said "Having suffered from a life-threatening illness and gained an astonishing amount of support from the Cotswold Care Hospice, I can wholeheartedly appreciate what they do."

Every year the Cotswold Care Hospice helps more than 500 people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. All the services are provided completely free of charge.

The women enjoyed a load of live entertainement at the Deer Park School with singers, dancers and a magician to keep them entertained before being lead out by Ben from the TA to the start line to begin their walk.

On their return, they enjoyed a good chat with some bucks-fizz and homemade baking to aid their recovery.

Work colleagues at Turtle Mars in Kemble, dessed as Ninja Turles. One of the team, Philippa Lark, raised more than £1,000 on her own. She said:

"I'm walking in memory of Stephen Ford, a good friend. Cotswold Care helped care for him and now is supporting his family."

Peter Rowbottom, Head of  Fundraising for Cotswold Care Hospice said "The women have been amazing. Together they have pledge enough to pay for more than 1,600 hours of care for our Hospice at Home nurses."

If you missed out, then don't worry, a second Cotswold Midnight Walk is taking place in Gloucester on 2nd September, why not register today?!
